Project Planning (Kick–off/Checkpoint/Evaluation)

A technique to use with project teams is to have them identify goals of the project and track progress toward those goals.  Meetingworks has worked with several large project teams that kick off their project with a brainstorming session to list their goals.  They prioritize the goals in the first meeting.  At a checkpoint meeting halfway through the project they return to rate how well they are accomplishing the goals.  At the end of the project they rate how well they attained them.

Another valuable step in the "kick-off" stage is to tap the group’s experience in projects.  A multiple-topic Generate step asks the participants to share successful techniques, methods, etc. from previous projects; they also share their not so successful experiences.

In both the kick-off and checkpoint meetings, the participants list barriers to success (Generate) followed by discussion (Organize), and prioritization (Evaluate).  They then brainstorm ways to mitigate the barriers (Generate).

The final meeting (evaluation) can rate the success of the project, offer advice to future project teams (lessons learned), and have some lighter brainstorming topics added for fun ("Would you do this again?").
