A team used Multiple Criteria Analysis with scenario building to determine its future course. First a list of strategic criteria were developed (Generate, Organize, Evaluate, File Editor). Then they discussed several alternatives for their future course. Multiple Criteria Analysis was used to weight the strategic criteria and score the alternatives for their future course.
Once finished with the task, the entire group was surprised by the results (one alternative scored quite a bit higher than each participant expected). It was discovered in conversation that each person had made a particular assumption when scoring the alternative. They used the scenario builder to remove one of the criteria entirely. The results of the Multiple Criteria Analysis then showed them that their assumption had indeed affected the final scores (weighted factors). When removed, the results made more sense to each group member.
