A group needed to collect an enormous amount of information about one of their competitors. They invited experts in a variety of areas to the meeting. A multiple topic Generate was used to collect "intelligence" about the competitor. Some of the topics for the Generate included: financial; technology; global presence; human resources; competencies; customer focus; and products. After gathering the "facts" the information within each topic was printed and discussed.
Next the group brainstormed what they considered to be the main strategies of their competitor. Generate was used, followed by a quick "clean up" of the strategies in Organize. An Evaluate was done (allocate 100 points) to prioritize the strategies, followed by a File Editor step to reduce the list to the top few.
The top few strategies were placed back in another Evaluate step to assess the implications of each strategy.
The group felt they gathered quality information during the process and plan to use this same process to analyze their other competitors. They also see the value of conducting a competitive analysis with members of the group participating from any location while using the InternetEdition or Connect products.
